==Annotation== 
Óskarsdóttir investigates the so-called Vitlausa Egla (“Silly Saga of Egil”) from the 17th century, which rarely has been studied closely by scholars. Vitlausa Egla uses as a source both epic poetry (rímur) by Jón Guðmundsson from Russeyum (Rauðseyjum) and also the medieval version of the saga. Óskarsdóttir compares texts to show how this particular version of Egil’s Saga reflects contemporary interests, vocabulary, and the emphasis of the author on entertainment. Vitlausa Egla exaggerates the characteristics and feats of the protagonists, and the author both adds to and removes events from the original narrative. Óskarsdóttir comes to the conclusion that this version should be examined further, if only to have a glimpse of the culture of the 17th century.

Svanhildur kannar hina svokölluðu Vitlausu Eglu frá 17. öld, sem hefur sjaldan verið skoðuð á fræðilegan hátt. Vitlausa Egla styðst við Egils rímur eftir Jón Guðmundsson í Russeyjum (Rauðseyjum) og einnig handrit frá miðöldum. Svanhildur ber texta saman til að sýna hvernig þessi útgáfa Egils sögu speglar áhuga, orðaforða, og sérstaka áherslu höfundar á skemmtanagildi. Vitlausa Egla ýkir eðli og afrek söguhetjanna, og höfundur sögunnar bæði bætir við og líka fjarlægir atburði úr upprunalegu gerð sögunnar. Svanhildur kemst að þeirri niðurstöðu að þessi útgáfa ætti vera rannsökuð frekar, ekki síst til að skýra menningu ritunartímans.
