	In his dissertation, Fidjestøl delineates the transmission, division and genres of the skaldic poetry, using a structural methodology. 			Í doktorsritgerð sinni rekur Fidjestøl þróun og greinar dróttkvæðs skáldskapar með hliðsjón af kenningum um formgerð. Greining hans á Höfuðlausn Egils dregur fram hið flókna samband milli ritheimilda og munnlegrar hefðar í dróttkvæðum. Fidjestøl skoðar hvernig tvær mismunandi munnlegar gerðir Höfuðlausnar hafa áhrif á ritheimildir sögunnar þannig að úr verða tveir mismunandi en þó sambærilegar textar, og bendir á hvað í kvæðinu á sér líklega rætur í munnlegri hefð og hvað kann að byggjast á ritheimildum.
