	Jón Helgason questions the truth-value in Egil’s journey to York and specially Egil’s authorship of Höfuðlausn. As a matter of fact Jón questions the authorship of every poem attributed to Egill, with the exception of Arinbjarnarkviða and Sonatorrek. Many things can become disarrayed in the 300 years that pass from Egill’s lifetime to the time the saga was written. This is obvious from the chronological inconsistency of some phonetic and grammatical changes in the poems. The main reason for Jón to state that Höfðulausn is not by Egill is because /ƒ/ and /ø/ are made to rhyme in the poem. At the same time, contrary to popular belief he believes the poem to be an imitation of the poem Geisli by Einar Skúlason, a successor of Egill by two centuries. If Egill composed Arinbjarnarkviða, one could assume that Egill did in fact sail to York but Jón states that the version of the journey in the poem contradicts the one in Egils saga. There is the possibility of the poem being composed in the latter part of the 12th century by a fabulist that felt the narrative of Egil’s journey to York lacking substance. When Egils saga was written in the 13th century the poem was left out, but added in later versions of the saga. 			Jón Helgason efast um sannleiksgildi frásagnarinnar af Jórvíkurför Egils, einkum að Egill hafi sjálfur ort Höfuðlausn. Í raun telur Jón fæst af kveðskap Egils vera eftir hann sjálfan, nema helst Arinbjarnarkviða og Sonatorrek. Margt hafi getað skolast til á þeim þrem öldum sem liðu frá því að Egill var uppi og þar til sagan var skrifuð. Það sést m.a. á ýmsum hljóð- og málbreytingum sem séu of unglegar til að þær hafi getað staðið saman í hendingum. Höfuðástæða þess að Jón telur að Höfuðlausn sé ekki eftir Egil er að þar eru /ƒ/ og /ø/ látin ríma saman. Jafnframt telur hann kvæðið vera stælingu á Geisla Einars Skúlasonar sem var uppi tveimur öldum á eftir Agli en ekki á hinn veginn, eins og flestir hafa talið. Ef Arinbjarnarkviða er eftir Egil mætti gera ráð fyrir að Egill hafi í raun siglt til Jórvíkur en Jón telur að kvæðið segi öðruvísi frá atburðunum í Jórvík en sagan sjálf. Það hafi hugsanlega verið ort á síðari hluta 12. aldar af sagnamanni sem hafi fundist það vanta inn í frásagnir af Jórvíkurferð Egils. Þegar sagan var skrifuð á 13. öld hafi kvæðið ekki verið tekið með, en því bætt við í seinni gerðum.
