			Examples of ''dróttkvætt'' stanzas in ''Heimskringla'', ''Fagrskinna'', ''Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar'', ''Óláfs saga helga'', Arnórr jarlaskáld's ''Hrynhenda'' and ''Hallfreðar saga'' are used to explain the structure of regular and irregular ''dróttkvætt'' lines with an emphasis on addition, transformation, elision and clipping of excess syllables. Because of the linguistic restrictions concerning regular ''dróttkvætt'' stanzas, in particular the strict regulation of syllables and intonation per line and the obligation of stressed syllables to alliterate with one another, stanzas appear less frequently in perfect rhyme than in half rhyme. The key supposition of Siever's article is the elaboration of three rules from which the ''Deutsche Silbenverschleifung'' depends. Firstly, that each line in the regular ''dróttkvætt'' consists of at least six syllables (three feet each comprised of two syllables) wherein the first syllable of each foot is stressed. Secondly, that the first and third metrical foot of each line are trochaic, and the second foot is either trochaic or consisting of two short and unaccented syllables. And thirdly, that the first metrical foot of each line can be changed to úu whereas the second foot can only be transformed if both syllables are unstressed.
