	This short chapter concerns compositional issues as well as content aspects of Egil’s ''Sonatorrek''. Von Unwerth speaks out against Neckel’s supposition that ''Sonatorrek'' is the product of Old English elegiac poetry influences on Egil and states that it represents Egil’s thoughts and his inner conflict, which finds expression in the flawed succession of stanzas~~. 			Þessi stutti kafli fjallar um atriði er varða byggingu og inntak Sonatorreks. Von Unwerth andmælir þeirri skoðun Neckels að Sonatorrek sé ort undir áhrifum fornenskra tregrófa og telur þess í stað að það endurspegli hugmyndir Egils sjálfs og innri átök sem sýni sig í sérkennilegri röð vísnanna. Unwerth fjallar einnig um Sonatorrek í meginhluta bókarinnar (§55, bls. 104-109), bæði efni þess og samsetningu. Hann segir þar að lokum að Sonatorrek gefi til kynna að menn hafi álitið að sóttdauði gæti einnig verið af völdum Óðins og að sóttdauðir og drukknaðir hafi fengið inngöngu í Valhöll.
