Sverrir draws attention to the ambiguity in the first stanza of Höfuðlausn in which the ship-voyage described in the verse is in fact not a trip, but rather a comparison between a voyage and the action of composing a strophe. This was common in classical poetry, e.g. in Ovide and Horace. However it seems unlikely that Egill himself would have composed the poem as it appears doubtful that he had known Latin poetry. | |||

Annotation
Sverrir draws attention to the ambiguity in the first stanza of Höfuðlausn in which the ship-voyage described in the verse is in fact not a trip, but rather a comparison between a voyage and the action of composing a strophe. This was common in classical poetry, e.g. in Ovide and Horace. However it seems unlikely that Egill himself would have composed the poem as it appears doubtful that he had known Latin poetry.
Lýsing
Sverrir bendir á tvíræðni í fyrsta erindi Höfuðlausnar þar sem skipsferðinni sem lýst er sé í raun engin ferð heldur sé verið að líkja sjóferð við það að semja vísu. .Slíkt var algengt í klassískum kveðskap, m.a. hjá Óvíð og Hóras. Því sé ólíklegt að Egill hafi sjálfur ort kvæðið enda ósýnt um að hann hafi þekkt til latnesks kveðskapar.
