Annotation

In his dissertation, Fidjestøl delineates the transmission, division and genres of the skaldic poetry, using a structural methodology. His analysis of Egils Höfuðlausn, highlights the complex relationship between the written and the oral sources in skaldic poems. By examining how two different oral variants of Höfuðlausn affect the written sources, evidently producing two different, yet similar texts, Fidjestøls suggests what in the poem may have been orally transmitted, and what is probably based on existing written material.
