Egils saga’s poetry concerning the battle of Brunanburh (Vínheiðr) in 937 is examined as an example of Skaldic verse dealing with episodes in Anglo-Saxon history. Information in verses 16 to 22 of the saga is compared with other (English) sources as part of an examination of the poetry’s varying historical validity.
