Annotation

The first six chapters of the B-redaction of Egils saga Skallagrímssonar are copied at the end of Stockholm, Royal Library (isl.) Perg 4:o nr 7, which together with AM 580 4to (Copenhagen) constitutes the remains of a vellum codex of the early fourteenth century mainly containing prose romances (riddarasögur and fornaldarsögur). The original book was most likely split up before it left Iceland. The part containing Egils saga reached Stockholm by unknown paths not later than the 1680s, while the part now in Copenhagen was given to Árni Magnússon in 1703 by a descendant of the antiquarian Ole Worm. The transcription printed here is a revision of a draft made in the 1950s by Agnete Loth and corrected by Jón Helgason, who considered the text to be generally better than that preserved in the somewhat younger Wolfenbüttel manuscript of Egils saga.
