Annotation

Here Lee M. Hollander provides a translation of The Lay of Arinbjorn based upon Sigurður Nordal's 1933 edition of Egils saga. Hollander provides historical background as well as narrative and cultural context relevant to the poem before his translation. He states that the utility of the skaldic lay was not only meant for the glory of the subject but also for that of the artist.
