Annotation

This article is a diplomatic edition of the Egils saga fragment AM 162 A δ fol, which in its present state consists of eight leaves. The introduction focuses on the question of dating and on the possible relationship of the fragment to a particular group of manuscripts. According to some previous scholars the scribe of AM 162 A δ fol was identical with the scribe of AM 162 E fol, AM 325 III β 4to, Holm perg 18 4to (hand G), GKS 1009 fol and AM 655 XXXII 4to. The inclusion of AM 655 XXXII 4to is clearly erroneous, and although the writing of GKS 1009 fol shares more common features with the other manuscripts, neither of the scribes of GKS 1009 fol can be identical with the scribe of the others. In the case of AM 162 E fol, AM 325 III β 4to and Holm perg 18 4to (hand G) the situation is less clear. The palaeographic and orthographic features of these three manuscripts are therefore compared with the corresponding features of AM 162 A δ fol. The present editor finds it most likely that AM 162 A δ fol, AM 162 E fol and AM 325 III β 4to are in fact written by the same scribe, whereas Holm perg 18 4to (hand G) seems to be the work of another (related) scribe. In ONP the fragment is dated to c. 1300, and this dating seems to be confirmed by the palaeographic and orthographic features examined in the introduction.

Lýsing

Greinin er stafrétt útgáfa á Eglu-brotinu AM 162 A δ fol, sem nú samanstendur af átta blöðum. Í inngangi er rætt um aldur brotsins og hugsanleg tengsl þess við tiltekinn flokk handrita. Áður hafa sumir fræðimenn talið skrifara AM 162 A δ fol einnig hafa skrifað AM 162 E fol, AM 325 III β 4to, Holm perg 18 4to (hönd G), GKS 1009 fol og AM 655 XXXII 4to. Ljóst er að AM 655 XXXII 4to á ekki heima í þessum hópi og þó að finna megi fleiri sameiginleg einkenni með GKS 1009 fol og hinum handritunum þá er ljóst að hvorugur ritari þess handrits hefur komið að ritun hinna handritanna. Erfiðara er að skera úr um hvort á AM 162 E fol, AM 325 III β 4to og Holm perg 18 4to (hönd G) sé sama hönd og á AM 162 A δ fol. Kjeldsen ber því leturgerð og stafsetningu í þessum þremur handritum saman við sömu þætti í AM 162 A δ fol og telur líklegast að AM 162 A δ fol, AM 162 E fol og AM 325 III β 4to séu öll skrifuð af sama manni en að Holm perg 18 4to (hönd G) sé með annarri (en skyldri) rithönd. Hann tekur líka undir með ONP um að brotið sé frá því um 1300; bæði leturgerðin og stafsetningin benda í þá átt.
