Annotation

This article is a diplomatic edition of the Egils saga fragment AM 162 A θ fol, which has already been published several times. The transcriptions found in former editions are, however, all inaccurate in different ways. Due to technical problems in the printing process, the latest edition – Bjarni Einarsson’s from 2001 – is unfortunately no exception, and it has therefore been deemed necessary to republish the entire fragment. The introduction focuses on the question of dating. Facsimiles of the entire fragment (four leaves) are also provided. In ONP the fragments is dated to c. 1250, and the palaeographic and orthographic evidence examined here seems to confirm a dating to about, or shortly after the middle of the thirteenth century.

Lýsing

Greinin er stafrétt útgáfa á Eglu-brotinu AM 162 A θ fol, sem hefur áður birst í fjölmörgum útgáfum, hins vegar hafa eldri afrit öll verið ófullkomin, hvert á sinn hátt. Vegna tæknilegra örðugleika í prentuninni er útgáfa Bjarna Einarssonar frá 2001 engin undantekning frá eldri afritum. Þess vegna er það talið nauðsynlegt að endurútgefa handritið í heild sinni. Í innganginum er sjónum beint að aldursgreiningu brotsins, auk þess að ljósprentun af brotinu sjálfu (fjögur blöð) fylgir með. Í ONP er talið að handritabrotið sé frá nálega 1250 og virðast rannsóknir á stafagerð og stafsetningu staðfesta að handritið sé frá þeim tíma eða örlítið seinna.
