Samkvæmt Torfa sprettur Egils saga ekki af munnlegri hefð, eins og oft er haldið fram, heldur frekar fullþroskuðum bókmenntahefðum. Horft er á þrjú sérkenni skáldsagna: a) tengsl tíma og staða í sögunni, b) raunsæiseinkenni sögunnar og c) þann stíl sem er notaður í Egilssögu. Torfi dregur af þessum atriðum þá ályktun að Egils saga geti að einhverju marki talist skáldsaga. | |||

Í greininni er fjallað um tengsl milli Egils sögu og skáldsögunnar sem bókmenntagreinar. Samkvæmt Torfa sprettur Egils saga ekki af munnlegri hefð, eins og oft er haldið fram, heldur frekar fullþroskuðum bókmenntahefðum.
