Wolf‘s article aims to find Njála‘s role in the corpus of the sagas of the early Icelanders. Wolf argues that what makes Njála different from other sagas is the portraying of sinister forces, which are, unlike the ones in the fornaldarsögur, nuanced. He sees another difference to many sagas in the display of the fight between women (chapter 35): the author of the saga chose to stray from the traditional outcome and the male main character is left untouched from the strife. In the end, Christianity heals the quarrels and brings peace. Wolf concludes that Njáls saga is an elaborate and comprehensive interpretation of Iceland‘s early days, giving high moral standing to this period and that the text may even be perceived as a historical theological reading.
