Hjalmar Falk investigates the poetic vocabulary of Egill's lausavísur. He discusses the meaning of some kennings, and suggests emendations that concern primarily the readings provided by Finnur Jónsson in Kritiske studier over en del af de ældste norske og islandske skjaldekvad (1884). These emendations can be based on rime and metrics, and engage the phonetic characteristics of some terms, or on stylistic grounds and concern the semantics and esthetic qualities of a whole phrase. Hence, Hjalmar Falk proposes alternative readings not only for inconsistencies in the verses, but also for unpleasant tropes such as pleonasms.
