Annotation

Following a brief description of Egils saga Skalla-Grímssonar, the dissertation treats the various classes of subjunctive constructions and their occurrences in the saga. The author concludes that "of these the indirect statement is by far the most important, while the concessive is comparatively unimportant. There are still many questions that can be answered only after an exhaustive study of the whole literature, but as far as this one saga is concerned the subject has been treated with some degree of exhaustiveness" (p. 74).

Lýsing

Í kjölfar stuttrar lýsingar á Egils sögu fjallar höfundur þessarar doktorsritgerðar um ólíka flokka viðtengingarháttar og hvernig þeir birtast í sögunni. Höfundur kemst að þeirri niðurstöðu að óbeinar fullyrðingar séu þeirra mikilvægastar en viðurkenningarsetningar skipti hlutfallslega litlu máli. Engu að síður séu margar spurningar sem kalli á meiri tæmandi úttekt á sagnaarfinum.
