Annotation

A systematic comparison of the structure, theme, ethics and narrative style of the sagas of Án bogsveigir and Egill Skalla-Grímsson. Righter-Gould concludes that Áns saga bogsveigis is a "close legendary analog" of Egils saga. She observes that the style of Áns saga is more similar to a family saga than a legendary saga, while Egils saga shares much in common with the legendary sagas, where the main action takes place during the hero's travels. More specific analogies can be found in the portrayal of major characters in the two sagas, the themes of contrasting brothers and inheritance disputes at court and the sagas' narrative structure.
